ProCórdoba Conducts its First Exploratory Mission to Russia

Staff members of ProCórdoba's Technical & Commercial Information Department conducted an important exploratory mission to Russia, with the goal of favoring the establishment and growth of trade relations in the agricultural machinery sector.

ProCórdoba's Business Intelligence Service conducts studies on statistical variables in order to identify strategic destinations for the different productive sectors of Córdoba. The research has shown that Russia is a strong potential destination for the Province's agricultural machinery sector, and for Argentina in general.

The Mission

The main goal of this initiative is to establish contacts in Russia, which will allow the commercialization of agricultural machinery in said foreign market. To that end, researchers identify non-tariff barriers and gather qualitative information.

Among the main activities carried out during this mission to the Russian country, we should note the visits to Moscow, Krasnodar and Rostov. The busy agenda was coordinated together with the Argentine Embassy in Moscow and, in some cases, with the National Institute for Agricultural Technology and the National Service of Agri-Food Health and Quality. The delegation conducted field visits, and contacts were established with ministries of production and chambers of commerce for each region, as well as business chambers, universities, research centers focused on agriculture, farmers, agricultural machinery firms and logistics agents.

Main extensive crops in Russia: grain, wheat, barley, corn and sunflower

It should be highlighted that this is the first exploratory mission to Russia undertaken by ProCórdoba as part of its Business Intelligence Program for the Agricultural Machinery Sector. In addition to evaluating the potential Russia has for this sector, the staff took advantage of the trips to identify opportunities for other strong sectors of the Cordobese industry, such as the agroindustry, IT, transport, tourism, fuels, energy and metalworking sectors, to name a few.

The data in brief:

Krasnodar: - 5.6 million inhabitants- Main port: Novorossiysk- Chosen as the destination for important foreign investments on the part of various corporations, such as: Claas, Cargill, Knauf, Nestle, Danone, Pepsico, etc. - Priority sectors: agroindustry, IT, transport, tourism, fuels and energy, construction, pharmacy.
Rostov:- 4.2 million inhabitants- Main ports: Azov, Rostov-on-Don.- Priority sectors: agroindustry, fuels and energy, metalwork, aircraft, helicopter.

A little bit of history

The activities focused on Russia began over 10 years ago, with missions conducted by the National Institute for Agricultural Technology (direct seeding and silo bags). More than 20 inward missions have taken place since then, which have led to experimental work done together with different institutions and companies in various areas of East Europe and Russia (destinations which have imported over 300 Argentine seeders for direct seeding, more than 100 sprayers, dozens of baggers, trailer hoppers, sunflower and corn headers, and a few harvesters and tractors). Argentina has also exported some turnkey products, such as grain driers and silo plants. Meanwhile, the National Institute for Agricultural Technology has shared its know-how on direct seeding, the silo bag, precision agriculture, and other processes and products.
Throughout the years, different missions have continued to take place, both in Russia and Argentina, which have favored the sharing and exchange of knowledge between farmers and specialists, as well as their participation in fairs and trade missions.
