Central America: a potential market to be conquered by the provincial SMEs

From 18th to 20th October, a multisectoral institutional and trade mission to Central America was conducted. It was a continuation of the Exploratory Mission that was conducted last year. It meant an opportunity for ProCórdoba Agency to carry out a study of trade and institutional counterparts linked to opportunities and international tenders.

The mission was coordinated by Noelia Peralta, member of the area of Commercial Promotion of ProCórdoba Agency. The members of the delegation were Pablo Nieto from José Guma S.A, Juan Ignacio Martín from Savant Pharm and Juan Pablo Sánchez and Esteban Atti from Silmag. Moreover, Gustavo Varalda from Gatti, Fernando Sama from Grupo Pilar, Fabio Moriconi from Balines Apolo, Gustavo Gandino from Talleres GAN MAR and Gustavo Damiano from Vulcano were also present.

On 18th October, the companies were welcomed by Guillermo Roberto Rossi, Argentine Ambassador in Honduras, and Guillermo Rodríquez, Minister of Honduras. Then, from 19th to 20th October, business meetings were conducted in the framework of a business round organized by ProCórdoba Agency in the Clarion Hotel and through visits to different companies that were interested in the products made in Córdoba.

Meetings were also conducted to strengthen the relations with multilateral organizations such as the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI) and The United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) in Honduras, which make calls in which Córdoba’s companies participate.

At the institutional and trade level, the results obtained were positive because new business opportunities for the participating companies were explored and the work that is being perfomed with the above-mentioned multilateral organizations was strengthened.

The businessmen that were part of the delegation tell us their experience:

Fabio Moriconi from Balines Apolo said:

“In the trade mission to Honduras something curious happened to me. In the first interview, I contacted the Sales Manager of a company. He saw the products and I gave him the price list and products samples and after 15 minutes, he left. Then, 10 minutes later, he came back to ask me for the exclusivity of Apolo in Honduras. We agreed on a first purchase obviously. It has never been easier before! Beyond this, I want to highlight the organization of ProCórdoba and its coordinators because they did their best to make the interviews be conducted successfully and to make us feel comfortable.”

Pablo Nieto from José Guma S.A. said:

“At a general level, it was our first experience in the Honduran market. Thanks to the good organization of ProCórdoba and CaCEC, meetings with traders interested in our products were conducted. I think that Honduras is an interesting market for our company where long-term trade agreements can be achieved.”

Gustavo Varalda from Gatti S.A. said:

“We have named MATTHEW S.A. as our distributor in Central America and that is why, together with its members, we visited prospective clients. This is already bearing fruits because a company from El Salvador will be sending us a purchase order in the next days. We are very optimistic and we hope that next year we have consolidated this market since temperatures are ideal for our product.
